Bourbon-Glazed Bacon & Turkey Sandwich

The South American barrel-aged darling by the name of bourbon from Kentucky, is a favourite among Southerners. Bourbon whiskey is popular all over the world, so much so that it makes up for two-thirds of the exports of distilled spirits.

From Hitchcock’s protagonist in North by Northwest and Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrence in The Shining to James Bond, bourbon is a fashionable American favourite. Hollywood clearly has a lot to do with it.

A bourbon-glazed bacon and turkey sandwich is a quick fix and a fitting choice if you are in the mood for something fancy for lunch. The recipe serves four portions, so you might as well have leftovers for dinner.


  • 4 pieces of turkey burger patties
  • 8 slices of cooked bacon
  • 8 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 8 slices of avocado, sliced 1/4th of an inch
  • For the grilled onions:
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 tbsps. of canola oil
  • 1/8th tsps. of minced garlic
  • 1/8th tsps. of salt
  • A dash of black pepper
  • For the Jack Daniels glaze:
  • 3 and a ½ tbsps. of maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp of molasses
  • 1 and a ½ tsps. of honey
  • 2 tbsps. of Jack Daniels whiskey

The Process

Then you’ll have to….Peel and slice an onion. Take a sauté pan and heat the canola oil on a medium flame. Add minced garlic, black pepper and salt. Toss and mix it well. Grill the onions on both sides for 2-3 minutes each. Make sure you keep them hot till you add them onto your sandwich.Take a separate pot and add maple syrup, molasses, Jack Daniels whiskey, and honey. Simmer for 5-7 minutes on medium heat. Then, cool it quickly under refrigeration and keep it refrigerated until it is ready for use.Grill the turkey burgers over medium heat for 2 and a ½ minutes on each side until they are cooked through. Layer 2 slices of cheddar cheese on the burger and let the cheese melt. Place the cheeseburger on the bottom end of the burger bun and layer it with 2 slices of cooked bacon, a slice of grilled onions, and 2 slices of avocado. Drizzle the burger with a tablespoon of Jack Daniel’s glaze and place the top half of the burger bun.

It was originally concocted out of a perfect blend of barley and almond. Having a prominent taste, it has been an essential component of various cocktails.
